Cover Your Hot Tub

Whenever you arrive in the parking garage/your parking spot/a place to park your car, there are certain things you do. You park your car. Then you turn off the engine. You pick up your papers, clothes, bags – whatever you brought along. Then you close the door. And you lock it.

Let’s replay that in slow motion.We don’t want to miss that last step. You wouldn’t just leave the door hanging open. Why? To keep things from getting in or getting out. (Stop looking at me that way; how should I know what (or whom) you lock up in your car?) Closing door means that until you return, you know that no burglar, escaped convict?bounty hunter/pirate captain, hotwiring teenage joy-rider, animal or fleeing terrorist will just mosey on into your vehicle.

There is a vehicle that needs a closed door in your backyard, too. It’s called a hot tub…and it can carry you off to a place that your car simply can’t. It can carry you off toa world of relaxation and peace, perhaps off toa planet the other side of Nowhere.

When you arrive from that pleasurable journey, you know there are certain thing you need to do before you can resume your daily life, right? You grab your towel. You step out (perhaps in the reverse order). You grab your book or your glass, and you head into the house. Oh, wait… before heading back into your house,you repalce the hot tub cover.

Just like in your car, you don’t want anything to sneak in or climb out while you are away, especially in Canada’s climate. (Hey – stop looking at me like that!)

What things might fall in while you are in the house or out running errands, if you fail to replace the replacement hot tub cover?

-children (Yes, just as with swimming pools, hot tubs sometimes drown a small child who wanders in by mistake.)
- leaves might fall from nearby bushes and trees
- trash blowing in the wind (the more debris ends up in the spa, the more chemicals you’ll need to use, the more frequently you’ll have to clean, and the more often you’ll need to replace the filter, which might not work as well as it should with all the debris clogging it up.)
- small creatures (You don’t want to wake up to a dead puppy or skunk in your hot tub)
- vandals, who are wander the neighbourhood looking to cause trouble
- insects and spiders(Yuck! Bugs!)

What could possibly crawl from the hot tub while while your back is turned? I know, I know – you’re looking at me funny like that again. But there is something in your hot tub. You do keep something in your hot tub that can sneak out of…two things, in fact: sweet heat and valuable money.

You spend quite a bit of money heating your hot tub. Even when you turn down the heat during the week or in your absense, keeping the hot tub hot is a fairly costly proposition. Leaving your tub exposed allows the heat to escape in several ways:

- The sun evaporates the water, which then needs to be replaced and heated.
- The night air cools the water, along with everything else.
- Steam rises, taking heat with it.
- The wind blows across the hot tub and cools the water.

As heat escapes, so, too, does your money. The more heat escapes, the more money you have to withdraw from the bank to reheat the water. So a Canadian hot tub cover is not just an investment in keeping all sorts of unwanted items, creatures and people from falling into your hot tub. It is also an investment in lowering the costs of maintaining your spa. If you look at the net cost, a Canadian hot tub cover costs you nothing; it actually makes you money. It actually reduces your expenses

If you own an outdoor spa or hot tub, a cover is a no-brainer decision. There are many styles to choose from, and they can easily be custom-fitted for any size or shape of tub. Whatever your spa is, wherever it is located, a hot tub cover makes sense.
